Where Focus Goes, Energy Flows
Recently, I shared a post on social media about the Black Dot—a simple but powerful reminder of how easy it is to fixate on the problem, the flaw, the thing that feels heavy... and forget about the wide open space of possibility that’s always surrounding it.
It’s funny how life layers these lessons, because not long ago, a memory surfaced for me—one that brought it all full circle.
It was from a time when I was just starting to explore this idea of focus and attention.
I had joined a free mindset challenge, and during one of the exercises, the leader asked us to look around the room and spot everything that was red.
It was easy. The red things jumped out immediately. We listed them without missing a beat.
Then he said:
"Now tell me everything you noticed that was blue."
And just like that, we were stumped because we hadn’t been looking for blue. Our attention had been locked onto the red.
That exercise stuck with me.
Not because it was complicated—but because it was true:
What you choose to look for, you will find.
Where your focus goes, your energy flows.
It’s not about pretending hard things don’t exist.
It’s about refusing to give them more space than they deserve.
It’s about remembering that you get to choose what you water, what you nurture, what you grow.
If you focus only on the obstacles, they’ll multiply.
If you shift your gaze—just a little—you’ll start seeing possibilities you couldn’t notice before.
And here’s the honest truth:
A few years ago, I was just thinking about this.
Now, I’m living it.
Not perfectly.
Not without moments where I still catch myself staring straight at the “black dot.”
(I'm human. You are too.)
But I catch it faster now.
I shift with more grace.
I trust that life expands wherever I dare to point my energy.
So here's your gentle invitation:
Take a breath.
Take a look around.
Where is your focus flowing right now?
What are you watering—without even realizing it?
What might shift if you turned your gaze just a few degrees toward possibility instead of fear?
