What if rest isn’t what you thought it was?
Last week, I woke up one day and wasn’t feeling like myself. I acknowledged it. I felt it. And while I didn’t need someone to tell me it was all going to be okay, I did need support.
So, I reached out to someone I trust—and that conversation reminded me of something powerful:
As a Projector in Human Design, I’m not wired for constant output. My energy comes in waves. My wisdom deepens through rest, not hustle.
And yet… How often do we convince ourselves that rest has to be earned?
That it only “counts” if it looks like a nap, a spa day, or a perfectly curated wellness moment?
Here’s the truth bomb:
Rest doesn’t have to look like stillness.
Rest doesn’t need to be scheduled, but it can be.
Rest isn’t laziness.
After that conversation, I canceled what I had planned and went outside. No music. No phone. No to-do list.
I sat on the grass, barefoot.
And I did nothing.
N-O-T-H-I-N-G.
No “productive” thoughts. No goals. Just me, the birds, a squirrel who thought he was sneaky, and the quiet miracle of being.
Thoughts came and went. I closed my eyes. I opened them.
I let it be what it was and that was the most restorative thing I’ve done in weeks.
Then my daughter came home with her boyfriend, and I shifted into connection because it felt good—not because I had to and I was able to feel great about it because I RESTED.
What if rest could be that simple?
What if rest is:
Sitting with your feet in the grass
Leaving your phone inside
Watching birds be birds
Saying no to something you planned because your body asked you to
Letting the silence soothe you
What if redefining rest is actually the most radical self-leadership move you could make this week?
✨ You don’t need to prove you’ve earned rest.
✨ You don’t need to hit rock bottom to justify a break.
✨ You don’t need permission.
But just in case—here it is anyway:
You’re allowed to rest.
You’re allowed to reset.
You’re allowed to feel good without doing more.
So now I’ll ask you:
What does rest look like for you—on your terms?
Let this be your invitation to find out.
